Njau grew up in a rural village outside of Nairobi, Kenya. He attended Kenyatta University where he received his bachelor's degree in education. He came to the United States to attend Lewis and Clarkin Portland, Oregon in which they granted him a full-ride scholarship (to which he is eternally grateful) and where he received his master's degree in education. He received an additional master's degree at Portland State University and that is where he currently works as a Kiswahili instructor.
Njau founded the non-profit Global Village Resources which provides youth, rural communities and under-privileged schools in Kenya technological, educational and developmental resources necessary to become future leaders of Kenya and the world.
He was introduced to his first living elephant by Debbie Ethell in Kenya which is a moment he will truly never forget. Debbie continues to teach him about elephants and he continues to teach her Swahili.
